  • In the months of July and August I cannot test for several weeks. Why is that? And can I do anything about this?

We believe it is important that students have time to settle in first.  Therefore, it is not necessary to administer tests in the first weeks of school following the summer holiday.

In addition, we use the summer holiday to prepare LVS BES for the start of the new school year. This includes reviewing tests and updating if necessary. Since we cannot perform this work while students are taking tests, it is not possible to schedule or administer any tests during this period. This period starts at the beginning of the summer holiday and lasts for approximately six weeks. We will inform you of the exact dates in a timely manner.

  • How are the costs for LVS BES calculated?

The license price is calculated based on the total number of students on the reference date of October 1 of the previous school year.

The license price is €10.00 per student, from primary school group 3 up to and including year 3 of secondary education.

  • How can my students log in to LVS BES?

Your students log in directly via lvsbes.nl using their username and password. Your school administrator manages the student accounts and can create new accounts.

  • How do I prepare the students for the first LVS BES assessment?

It is not necessary to prepare or study for an LVS BES test. However, you may want your students to take a sample test. A sample test allows students to become familiar with the types of questions and the testing environment. This also gives you the opportunity to check whether students have sufficient typing and computer skills.

In LVS BES students will also watch an instructional video before starting a test. Furthermore, it is important that students are equipped with the proper materials (laptop/tablet, headphones, scratch paper) and that they understand the purpose of the test.

Administration and Assessment

  • Are students allowed to use aids while taking the test?

As a test provider, we do not specify whether aids such as number charts or beads may be used; this is left at the discretion of the school.

Teachers are free to decide whether or not students are allowed to use aids.

However, please be aware that allowing a student to use aids will affect the validity and reliability of the assessment. In arithmetics, for instance, only part of the intended skills are measured. Consequently, the results cannot be compared with previous assessments or other students and may give a distorted picture.

  • Students recognize questions they have been presented with in a previous test. How is this possible?

“This question was also in the previous test. Is that correct?” Our customer service gets this question a lot when students take two consecutive tests in quick succession. The answer is: yes, that is correct! To ensure the quality of the tests and the reliability of the results, our tests always include some questions from other tests. These so-called anchor questions are used to guarantee the quality and comparability between the tests.

  • A student has scored highly on a test. When can the student move on to the next level?

Students who have already demonstrated a high score at the same level will not be able to score much higher on a subsequent test. These students will have an asterisk next to the level on their results. Next time, you can assign them a test at a higher level.

  • How much time do students get for a test?

The tests have no time limit. Some students need more time than others, and LVS BES allows for this flexibility. As a teacher, you can monitor this.

In the Test Guide, you will find an indication of the suggested time per test.

  • Can I assign a test more than once within one period?

Yes, definitely. You can administer a test whenever you find it useful. On the student’s page and on the results page, you will see the highest score achieved. You can also choose to view all results.

  • The student accidentally submitted the test too early, what should happen next?

If a student clicks ‘pause’ or closes the laptop, the test remains open. When the student clicks ‘stop test’ at the end of the test, they will receive three warnings before the test actually ends. If the student has only answered a few questions by then, you can schedule a new test and have them take it again. The result of the improperly closed test can be archived on the platform under the student’s results.

Results and Analysis

  • How can I delete a student’s result?

You may decide not to show a test result to your student or to exclude it from the various overviews.

A test result cannot be completely deleted from LVS BES, but it can be archived. An archived result will no longer be included or displayed in:

  • the group status
  • the group results
  • the results Excel file
  • the student profile
  • the talent map

To archive a test result, go to the results tab of the relevant student and click on the eye symbol or ‘View details’ next to the test result. Then click ‘Archive result’ at the top right.

  • A student has ‘no result’. What does this mean?

The result ‘no result’ means that the student answered too few questions correctly to provide a reliable score. In such cases, we recommend giving the student a test at a lower level so they can be more accurately assessed. These are guidelines, not strict rules. Ultimately, it is up to the teacher/school to decide whether retesting at a lower or higher level is appropriate. The most important thing is that you take action based on the test result. If a student takes a test at a higher or lower level, be sure to adjust your teaching accordingly.

  • A student obtains the minimum result. Do I have to re-test?

No, that is not necessary. But it is possible. It depends on the next steps you plan to take.
In the results, you can see which aspects the student is struggling with, and you know how to help the student achieve the tested level by working on those aspects. You can further base your teaching on this and therefore do not need another test result. In this case, it is not necessary to have the student take another test.

  • A student has scored the maximum result. Do I have to continue testing?

We recommend giving students with an asterisk next to their result a test at a higher level next time.

  • Are there reader’s guides for the talent maps available for parents and students?

Yes, reader’s guides are available for the talent maps. You can find them here
